What can counselling offer you?
Counselling is a process conducted in a safe environment where
confidentiality and privacy
are maintained and your rights respected.
Counselling provides space for people to share, communicate and explore the
problems
that concern them.
It is a process tailored to suit, empower you, identify and apply strategies
and solutions
appropriate to your needs. Our practice is about identifying
individual strengths, abilities
and skills to assist you in the process of
successful navigation of life’s hurdles and
challenges.
We are committed to
delivering an excellent service which nurtures the client-practitioner
relationship.
We also believe in our clients’ ability to achieve their
goals, enhance their quality of life
through fostering self-responsibility. In this process we recognise that laughter, a sense
of purpose and meaning
are catalysts for change.
Why seek counselling help?
Addressing a difficult situation can be hard work, sometimes downright
painful and
overwhelming.
Often we turn to our families and friends for
support. However, there are times when
this simply doesn’t feel right or
it’s too embarrassing. Reaching out is the first step to
regaining control
in your life. By being proactive your resilience and adaptability will
help
you to develop new skills to meet challenges head on.
We all need to learn
about “connecting in a changing world.”
Through regular counselling appointments in a non-judgemental environment,
you will
have space to think, explore and discover your world and your place
in it.
Feelings and behaviours have meanings that you may not fully
understand. We can walk
the path together to seek greater clarity and
resolve the issues affecting your wellbeing
through the development of new
skills that can be applied time and time again.
The final outcome is to bring about sustainable change and enhance your quality of life.
How do I get started with counselling and what happens?
If the concerns are of a couple or family nature, then it is always
preferable to see all
parties together. However, if this is not possible,
individual counselling can be arranged.
If you are seeking individual counselling this too is available.
Usually the first few counselling sessions will focus on obtaining a clear
picture of the
issues that affect you personally and/or the family.
We
explore the nature of the issue, severity, impact, frequency, relevant
family history etc.
By taking a detailed history and identifying the
problems/challenges, we can tailor a
suggested treatment plan between us.
It is then your decision as to whether you would like to continue further.
If therapy is to continue a “Disclosure Statement” and formal contract are
negotiated,
signed and initiated.
The Contract usually details...strategies, goals, course of action, number
of estimated
sessions, termination etc.
Consultations usually last 50 minutes with a further 5 minutes or so to
organise bills and
future appointments. Longer consultations are available.
Fees
Fees are calculated on a sliding scale in accordance with relevant peak
professional bodies –
ACA, AASW.
Fees will be established during the first session, or at the initial enquiry stage.
